Ok, a quick introduction since I'll be doing this up properly when I get home. I've been watching wrestling for about 25 years, so I'm going to answer a few of the main questions asked of most wrestling bloggers just to give you an idea of where I'm coming from.
What was the first wrestling event you watched?
WWE summer slam 1990 - my brother brought it home on vhs from a friend's house when I was a kid, and showed me it. I was pretty much instantly hooked. Demolition, the ultimate warrior, and yes, even hulk hogan. Well at least until the match was done and he started posing. Then I got bored.
After a steady diet of WWF wrestling challenge, superstars and all american wrestling videos from the kid in my brother's year who had sky TV, I saw WCW on ITV. Staying up all night for that had the unfortunate effect of getting me into the other stuff that beamed out of pontop pike in the wee small hours. Hence an irrational love of GAA, hurling, married with children and prisoners cell block H.
Didn't you grow out of it?
Not really, I just stopped watching and having the means to watch. A couple of months after Owen Hart won his first king of the ring. And then OnDigital happened and sky sports reappeared, this time in my house, the week before royal rumble 1999. Raw had become raw is war, and everything was insane. The late nights started, then the dish came and WCW in 2000 was on my screen (there's only one thing that I hate cause it's a bunch of crap, I hate rap). It spiralled from there. The internet's tentacles reached out and dragged me in, and i was back watching every thing I could get my hands on.
Are you going to be doing the usual blogger thing of whining about wwe/TNA creative decisions?
No. Not all the time anyhow. This is mainly going to be dedicated to British shows I go to or watch on demand. The British scene is great these days and due to most of the wrestlers being independent and on a bunch of different shows in different companies at the same time, the creative aspect and presentation comes through and the overall product gets showcased as well as the amazing athletes playing their part.
So you're going to be posting spoilers then?
No. Not intentionally, unless it's something that warrants it.
Ok, so what can we expect from this blog? reviews, opinions and hell, even the odd suggestion. Occasionally i'll dive into the archives and have a look at something from a while back - British, american, Japanese or Puerto Rican, or from wherever. But I'll try to steer clear of the "big 3" unless I'm really struggling for content. Anyhow, I'll get on to tidying this up when I get home tonight and have a look at a recent UK show for my first post.
